Pros: - Best PCI bang for the money with 256MB of memory - FX5500 chipset is superior to more common FX5200 - The FX5500 is the fastest common Nvidia Chipset for PCI Cons: - None really Other Thoughts: Was really surprised that this older video card became available on newegg.com recently! Unfortunately they quickly sold out and are hard to find especially in new retail box condition. Not sure when newegg will get more but hopefully soon. This video card plays graphics extensive games really well! Seems to perform better then the ATI Radeon 9250 PCI video card based on my testing. This is a great card! Pros: Nice upgrade for a Dell B110 compared to the onboard video that it had. Tested with only the game Neverwinter Nights, Diamond edition and worked like a charm. Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for nVidia Geforce FX5500 FX 5500 256MB DDR PCI Video Graphics Card VGA/DVI/S-Video. GeForce Drivers RSS Feeds. *This download includes the NVIDIA display driver and GeForce Experience. GeForce FX 5200LE, GeForce FX 5500, GeForce FX 5600. And also Diablo 2 which went smoother and the video from online streaming. Cons: Little tricky to figure out at first on these old machines to set as primary dispaly since not on this comps bios. But not cards fault. Other Thoughts: My friend likes to play older Rpg's, her newest one was Diablo 2 and loves it. She started complaining how her computer was going to slow and thought she had a virus. I took a look at it and figured out that she just needed to upgrade a little. (she put on a new anti-virus that needed higher requirements then her comp had) I installed some new memory and this card, and now it works flawless. Can def see a big difference in performance. I added the 2Gb (1 gig in each slot) of the patriot signature 184-pin DDR 400 which took without a glitch. Nice upgrade from the 254 that was in there. Also changed the samsung 80 gig HDD that was in there which was also partitioned to a WD Green 320 HDD. Still partitioned a small amout for my friend which saves the origanal settings from dell just in case. IDE port, which my drive I gave her had the IDE and ATA connectors. I would recommend this and more memory to anyone who still uses this computer or any other older model, can't go wrong. Pros: This card is a great upgrade over most Intel GPUs except maybe the latest one (which I've heard is pretty good, but still it's an intel *YUCK*). Before the upgrade, 2.8 Pentium 4 w/ 1 gig ram was sluggish. It had problems running 480p and was would be on the borderline of crashing at 720. Now 480p is incredibly smooth, boot up for windows XP is 5x faster. I also play Combat Arms. Had trouble running graphically intensive maps at low settings. Now with those low settings, my game looks a ton better and runs 60 FPS except for the lag that is currently plaguing game servers. The upgrade is from an 845i GPU running with 256 mb worth of system memory. I don't hear fan noise from the card but my system is naturally noisy anyway, so any noise from the card isn't louder then my Intel CPU fan. Cons: The instructions for installation sucks. Even if you do it right, you'll still have to go into bios and change it manually. After that, boot up is fine. I'd recommend you download the new drivers and install them since the ones on the disk are outdated. Didn't even bother with the disk too. Was able to plug in the card and then install the drivers off the bat! Even XP SP3 recognized the card off the bat.
